A big part of Dungreed is deciding which combination of weapons you want to use based on what you’ve found. Plenty of different items, weapons, stat buffs, etc. With lacklustre skill tree progression, it’s a good thing that the developers packed the game with so much more variety in each run, and great movement considering their 2D limits. The one big downside is that ranged combat is just so much better than being up close and personal making melee build kind of feel awful to play once you’ve experienced the power of ranged builds. However, there is one disgusting difficulty spike in the game that just brings more frustration than a fun challenge. With so many different builds you can try in your runs, you definitely won’t be bored. The difficulty is a great balance, with you flipping between a challenging run and, one where you stare at enemies, and they die from sheer fear. It’s got amazing progression with plenty of options to unlock. Dungreed a 2D rogue-lite where you run around clearing flooring, finding items, slaying mobs, all the good stuff. The dungeons are filled with weapon drops this time around all with different playstyles, actives, and passives. Although, if you found the combat in Rogue Legacy somewhat lacking, you will prefer Dungreed by a mile. You can only eat foods at the “cafe” as I call it, which spawns in one random room on each floor, so to get the most of your satiety, you want to find the cafe on each floor ASAP, then buy food before your satiety hits 0 (protip: it almost always, maybe only? spawns in a room with a side-entrance) Remember Rogue Legacy? 2D action platforming, permadeath, progression in the way of town upgrades, the tantalizing touch of bullet hell. Moving into a room you haven’t explored yet lowers satiety. Eating a food gives that food’s buffs for the rest of the run (stacking with any existing food buffs) and increases your satiety. You have a satiety level which starts at 0/100. Notably, the food buff system is done far better than in most games. Facets include classes, ability points, 2 weaponsets with handedness (main, off, 2H) and item abilities for some items, 4 accessories, itemsets, and food buffs. finding all items of a set, or certain items that work well with each other. Many facets of building your character during a run, some of which you choose in town at the start of the run, and some of which you build during the run, quite often changing your build’s direction mid-run due to eg. Plenty of unlocks to earnĪnd tons of build variety once you have most things unlocked, giving it high replay value. It’s pretty clear the game was designed around the core experience of killing lots of enemies in cool ways as fast as possible: A very solid rogue-lite platformer, very well polished.
